Guatemala mission network gathering

Presbyterians from around the country involved or interested in Guatemala mission – including partnerships somewhat similar to ours - will be meeting in Kentuckiana – back over at the presbytery’s Cedar Ridge camp where many of us worshiped last Sunday – from Tuesday night (Sept. 2) through midday Friday (Sept. 5).  CHPC folks are welcome for any and all parts of it.  The gathering will be begin with supper Tuesday night and end with lunch Friday.  In general, breakfast will be at 7;30 a.m. and devotions will start at 8;30 a.m., and things will end with supper at 6:00 p.m. and sessions between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. (with Friday ending at 1:00 p.m.).  Officially people who eat but don’t stay overnight will pay $25 a day.  But we’ve been told that people who come and go and especially who don’t eat (or stay) will get off cheaper.  Join fellow Presbyterians to pray and talk and brainstorm about where God is calling us to go with our shared U.S.-Guatemalan mission.

P.S. Try also to be at the 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 CHPC Guatemala gathering at church, as we look forward to our partners’ early October visit.

Mid-August gathering

Above is another draft of our partners' possible schedule during their early October Kentuckiana visit (updated at our Guatemala gathering this morning).  The list of responsibilities at the end is dated, and so don't focus on that. Soni has been updating that.

Note upcoming meetings, etc.:

Tuesday, September 2-Friday, September 5:  Guatemala Mission Network gathering - Cedar Ridge Camp
Thursday, September 11, at 6:00 p.m.:  Guatemala gathering – CHPC
Saturday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m.:  Guatemala gathering – place TBA
Saturday, October 4-Monday, October 13:  Guatemalan partner visit – Kentuckiana, etc.

Peter, Doug, and Perry have agreed to hover around the trip "puzzle" - now moved up next to the snacks after worship - both before and after worship - and Soni will mention during her Elder of the Week announcements additional/remaining opportunities for involvement, including opportunities to make money donations, to help provide the additional $1,800 needed to make the visit a reality.  We hope to be able to buy plane tickets for our partners on Tuesday, when fares may be cheaper (after obtaining dates of birth and confirmed exact names on passports for the four).

Prayers too for Hilda's brother, Jose, and Kendra Yeager, both of whom are having health issues.

-Perry

Our partners are coming!!

CHPCers…

Our Partners are coming!!

Four members of  the Q’eqchi’ Estoreno Izabal Presbytery in Guatemala all received visas! This is incredible.  And now, the home effort really begins in order to be ready for their visit in early October.  This partnership is not just the efforts of a few people in our midst but a commitment of our whole congregation. One of the hopes for this upcoming visit is that it gives everyone in our congregation the chance to meet and get to know and learn from and be inspired by these friends.

So…I want to encourage each one of you to think about how you want to and can be involved in this visit.   There are many parts to play, things that need to happen for us to pull off this visit.  On Sunday a “puzzle” was unveiled on the bulletin board in the Gathering Room.  We are each challenged to pick a piece of the puzzle representing something that we can do. That might be  helping raise the money we’ll need – either with a special donation or by helping park cars this weekend during St. Joe’s picnic (details below).  Or your part in all this might be helping to organize or cook for one of the many meals or helping with transportation during their visit or attending (or helping organize) one of the special events we’ll have while they are here.  Please plan to look over the possibilities and see how you can be a part of this whole experience.  We need everyone.

Gracias!

Jane

Needs for our parking fund raiser during the St. Joe’s picnic this Saturday:

·       Someone to supply bright-colored poster board and make five large two-sided signs to encourage folks to donate $10 toward our Guatemalan Partnership and get close in parking. Drop the signs off to the church office by 11 Saturday morning.

·       We need two more persons on the 2:30 – 5 pm shift and the 7:30 – 10 pm shifts. This would give us four on each shift to encourage parkers, collect money and direct to open spots. This is our primary fund raiser this year.

Pablo prayers

Prayers for the family and colleagues in ministry of Pastor Pablo Sacul, a long-time leader in our partner presbytery in Guatemala and pastor of the Peniel church in Boquerón who died Sunday.

Pablo was critical in moving forward with the partnership, as he was one of two pastors who met with CHPC delegations twice during Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Guatemala Mission Networking gatherings in Guatemala.  Pablo and his family hosted Lowell Linder in their home, during a 2009 CHPC mission team visit to El Estor.  His son, Benjamin Sacul, pastors the Familia de Noe church.
