Under the Tent

Friday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Big Tent Conference, Moderator Neal Presa and Presbyterian Mission Agency Executive Director Linda Valentine helped commission a couple of dozen PC(USA) mission co-workers in new calls, including Crescent Hill's own Jeff and Christi Boyd (headed to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Francophone Africa) and another mission worker Crescent Hill has partnered with (in Guatemala!): Amanda Craft (who's headed with husband and their two kids to Mexico or Texas, where she and husband Omar will serve as Regional Liaisons for Mexico and Guatemala.  Also commissioned were Richard and Debby Welch, out of Inland Northwest Presbytery in Washington state, who will be headed in November for Guatemala.  There they will improve their Spanish and then work with indigenous Presbyterians.

In other Big Tent news, the World Mission conference part of Big Tent will feature a workshop led by "Toxic Charity" author Robert Lupton will speak on "Toxic Charity:  How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (and How to Reverse It)" between 10:00 and 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Galt House's Chandler Room.
